Bhopal: State forest officials have successfully rescued a tigress and her last surviving cub from the Kanha Tiger Reserve after three of her cubs died in quick succession. The tigress and the cub were found in a weakened condition and have been shifted to a quarantine facility in the Mukki range for close veterinary care.
Rescue Operation in Sarhi Range
The rescue operation was carried out in the Sarhi range, where the animals were tranquilised before being moved. Officials noted that the mother appeared to be suffering from an infection, which may have been passed on to the cubs. A veterinary team collected blood and swab samples to determine the exact cause of the illness.
Veterinary Care and Monitoring
Senior forest officials supervised the operation, and authorities have stated that further action will depend on the lab reports. Meanwhile, monitoring of other tigers in the reserve has been stepped up as a precautionary measure. The cubs' deaths have raised concerns about the health of the tiger population in the area.
The rescued tigress and her cub are under constant observation, and the forest department is taking all necessary steps to ensure their recovery. The incident highlights the challenges faced in wildlife conservation and the importance of prompt intervention in such cases.
