Two engineering students drowned in the Bhadra canal near Channagiri in Karnataka, police reported. The deceased have been identified as Vivek (23) and Manasi (23). According to officials, the incident occurred when a group of around ten students from a local college visited a temple near Marabanahalli.

While at the canal, Manasi was washing utensils when she accidentally slipped and fell into the water. In an attempt to rescue her, Vivek jumped into the canal but also struggled and drowned. Despite efforts by bystanders and rescue teams, both students could not be saved.

The bodies were recovered later, and police have registered a case. The incident has sent shockwaves through the college community, with students and faculty expressing grief. Authorities have urged caution near water bodies and emphasized the importance of safety measures.
