Two people were killed and two others sustained injuries after a car they were traveling in plunged approximately 700 metres into a deep gorge near the Shikari Devi temple in the Seraj area of Mandi district, Himachal Pradesh, late Tuesday night.
Accident Details
According to the police, the driver lost control of the vehicle at a sharp bend near the temple gate, causing the car to fall into the gorge. The temple is situated at an altitude of around 3,300 metres. The incident occurred around midnight, and the car tumbled down the steep slope before coming to a halt deep in the ravine.
Rescue Operation
One of the injured survivors managed to climb back to the road and alert people sleeping near the temple. The Janjehli police were informed at approximately 1 a.m., and a rescue team was promptly dispatched to the scene. The injured were extricated and rushed to the hospital.
Victims Identified
The deceased have been identified as Bhupender Raj and Het Ram, both residents of Thunag near Janjehli. The injured, Yog Raj and Purn Chand, have been admitted to Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri Government Medical College and Hospital in Nerchowk for treatment. Their condition is reported to be stable.
Local authorities have registered a case and are investigating the cause of the accident. The stretch of road near the temple is known for its sharp curves and steep drops, and such incidents have been reported in the past.
