In a significant crackdown on illegal drug trafficking, the Special Operation Group (SOG) team, in coordination with Handia police, successfully busted an inter-state drug peddling racket on Saturday. The operation led to the arrest of two drug peddlers identified as Ranjodh Singh (37) and Shubham Kumar (29), both residents of Gurdaspur district in Punjab.
Arrest and Seizure
The arrests were made near the Bhiti market flyover road. During the operation, law enforcement officials seized a substantial quantity of contraband, including 102.5 kilograms of ganja, which is estimated to be worth approximately Rs 25 lakhs in the illicit market. Additionally, a truck and a mobile phone were confiscated from the possession of the accused.
Details of the Consignment
According to police sources, the drug consignment was originally brought from Odisha and was intended to be delivered in Bhadohi. The arrested individuals disclosed that they had commenced their journey from Odisha approximately six days prior to their capture. They were instructed by an unknown person to transport the consignment to Varanasi. Upon reaching Varanasi, another unidentified individual directed them to proceed to Bhadohi. However, their plans were thwarted when police intercepted them near Bhiti as they awaited the middleman.
The successful operation underscores the vigilance and proactive measures undertaken by the Uttar Pradesh Police to combat the menace of drug trafficking in the region. Further investigations are ongoing to trace the network and identify other individuals involved in this illicit trade.
