Vijayawada Airport Terminal Construction to Resume Soon
Vijayawada Airport Terminal Work Resumes Shortly

The construction of the integrated terminal building at Vijayawada International Airport is set to resume shortly. KMV Projects, which emerged as the lowest bidder (L1) in the tenders floated by the Airports Authority of India (AAI), has received the letter of award (LoA) for completing the remaining 20% of works. The project had been stalled for over five months after AAI terminated the previous contractor at the end of 2025 due to slow progress. The tendering process caused further delays, leaving the remaining works in a stalemate.

Project Details and Features

The Rs 611 crore integrated terminal building, designed as a steel and glass structure, will span 36,075 square meters. It will include a forecourt area of 5,370 square meters and six exclusive aero bridges, a first for the airport, allowing passengers to board flights directly. The construction is expected to resume in the first week of June and must be completed within a five-month deadline before being handed over to AAI.

Timeline and Commissioning

After finishing the pending 20% works, an additional two months will be required for commissioning the new terminal, including obtaining mandatory permissions from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and other authorities. An AAI official at the Vijayawada airport stated that the new terminal building is likely to be operational by the end of 2026 or early 2027.
