Authorities have issued a caution to residents living along the banks of the Thodupuzha and Muvattupuzha rivers as water from the Malankara Dam will be released for emergency shutter repair. The repair work, which is part of monsoon preparedness measures, is scheduled to begin on Tuesday and will continue for three weeks.
Water Level Reduction
Officials have stated that the water level in the dam will be reduced to 36.9 meters. As excess water is discharged, the water level in both rivers may rise, prompting authorities to caution people residing on either side of the rivers to remain vigilant.
Impact on Drinking Water Supply
The executive engineer of the Muvattupuzha Valley Irrigation Project emphasized that steps must be taken to ensure uninterrupted drinking water supply to the panchayats of Arakkulam, Velliyamattom, Kudayathoor, and Alakode. The Kerala Water Authority and local bodies have been directed to arrange alternative measures and take necessary precautions.
The water level in the dam will be restored after the completion of the repair works. Residents are advised to stay alert and follow any instructions from local authorities during this period.
