Water Supply Resumes for 3,000 Households in Giridih

Bokaro: The prolonged water scarcity affecting over 3,000 households under the Madhuban drinking water supply scheme in Giridih district is set to end from Saturday, as water supply resumes after extensive repair and technical restoration.

Background of the Crisis

The families covered under the project have faced severe hardship since April 23, when water supply was completely shut down due to multiple motor failures and technical component faults. Madhuban, located in the Pirtaand block of Giridih district, sits at the foothills of Parasnath Hills, a highly sacred pilgrimage site in Jainism.

The shutdown triggered a water crisis during the peak of summer, forcing families to rely on wells, ponds, and nearby water bodies to meet their daily needs. The project, launched in 2015, draws water from the Barakar River, a tributary of the Damodar, and is managed by the village water and sanitation committee.

Restoration Efforts

State Urban Development Minister Sudviya Kumar and Giridih Deputy Commissioner Ramniyas Yadav closely monitored the restoration and repair work. Avik Ambala, Executive Engineer of the Drinking Water and Sanitation Division Number 2, stated, “Technical teams worked intensively over the past several weeks to revive the stalled project. The disruption was caused due to the failure of the agency to properly follow technical maintenance standards.”

Repair work and technical corrections began on April 24, with damaged machinery, pipelines, and related equipment inspected and restored. The Deputy Commissioner confirmed, “All technical work has been completed successfully, and the system is fully ready for operation.”
