WB HS Council Chief, Secretary Allowed to Stay Despite Ban

The West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education (WBCHSE) president Partha Karmakar and secretary Priyadarshini Mullick have been permitted to continue in their positions until the higher secondary examination results are declared. This makes them the sole exceptions to the state government's recent crackdown on post-retirement reappointments of bureaucrats and senior officials.

Government Orders Termination of 243 Retired Officers

On Tuesday, the West Bengal government terminated the reappointments of 243 retired officers who had been serving across various departments. The move was part of a broader policy to phase out post-retirement engagements. However, the WBCHSE top officials were granted a temporary reprieve following a clarification request to the school education department.

Clarification and Continuation Order

According to sources, Karmakar and Mullick sought clarification from the school education department after the government issued an order for the immediate removal of nominated members. In response, they were instructed to continue in their roles until the higher secondary results are announced, after which their positions would be reviewed.

HS Results Scheduled for Thursday

The higher secondary results are scheduled to be declared on Thursday. Officials argued that removing the president and secretary before the announcement could create serious administrative problems. Appointing new signatories at this stage would delay college admissions for students across the state.
