A 58-year-old retired businessman from Porbandar, now residing in Rajkot, has embarked on an extraordinary 19,000-kilometer motorcycle journey to London, aiming to spread a critical environmental message. Jivan Parmar, accompanied by Ahmed Chavda from Rajkot and Sanit Mishra from Mumbai, began their expedition from Rajkot at 6 am on Saturday.
A Mission Beyond Adventure
While the journey itself is a remarkable feat, the trio's focus is on raising awareness about the growing threat of electronic waste, particularly lithium batteries. In an age where lithium batteries power everything from mobile phones and laptops to electric vehicles, improper disposal has become a serious environmental hazard. The riders emphasize that careless disposal of used batteries leads to toxic chemicals seeping into the soil and groundwater, posing risks to public health and the environment.
Route and Outreach
The route to London will take the riders through multiple countries, providing opportunities to engage with local communities and highlight the dangers of unmanaged e-waste. At each stop, Parmar plans to deliver a simple yet crucial message: used batteries must be deposited at authorized e-waste collection centers or recycling facilities, not mixed with regular household waste.
Passion Meets Purpose
Parmar has been associated with motorcycle riding for 25 years and has traveled nearly 250,000 kilometers across India, visiting almost every hill station. By linking his passion for riding with environmental advocacy, he has launched this international expedition to promote responsible battery disposal. He believes that collective responsibility can prevent major environmental damage.
Preparation and Logistics
The Rajkot-to-London journey required nearly six months of meticulous planning, including securing visas for China, Russia, the Schengen region (covering 29 European countries), and the United Kingdom. The riders are well-prepared for the long and challenging route.
A Cleaner Future
This journey is not just a personal dream for Parmar; it is a campaign rooted in the desire to leave a cleaner and safer planet for future generations. As the riders head toward London, their message resonates clearly: proper disposal of lithium batteries and e-waste is not only an individual choice but a shared duty toward the environment.
