Ahmedabad is expected to face a scorching Sunday as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasted that the mercury could touch 44°C. The prediction came on Saturday after the city recorded its highest maximum temperature of the summer so far at 43.8°C, which was 3.6 degrees above normal.
Saturday's Weather Highlights
On Saturday, the minimum temperature settled at 27°C, which was 1.9 degrees higher than normal. Citizens endured very hot conditions with relative humidity (RH) dropping below 50% during both morning and evening hours. The intense heat led to thinner traffic in the afternoon as people resorted to consuming fluids for relief.
IMD Forecast for Gujarat
The IMD forecast for the state indicated a gradual rise in maximum temperatures by 2-3 degrees over the next two days, followed by a fall of 2-3 degrees. Maximum temperatures are likely to range between 41°C and 44°C in isolated inland areas of Gujarat, while coastal regions may see temperatures between 35°C and 40°C. A yellow alert has been issued for hot and humid conditions in coastal Gujarat regions.
Hottest Spots in Gujarat on Saturday
Surendranagar recorded the highest maximum temperature in the state at 44.4°C, followed by Ahmedabad at 43.8°C, Amreli at 43.7°C, Rajkot and Bhuj at 43.3°C, and Gandhinagar at 43.2°C. Residents are advised to stay hydrated and avoid direct sun exposure during peak hours.
