Ahmedabad's Heatwave Shows Signs of Abating, Yet Warmth Persists
After enduring a week of intense heat where temperatures consistently soared above 40°C, Ahmedabad has finally witnessed a minor respite. On Monday, the city's maximum temperature recorded a decrease, settling at 37.7°C, down from Sunday's 38.4°C. This shift offers a brief, albeit still warm, break from the earlier scorching conditions.
Relative Coolness Amidst Above-Normal Readings
However, the term cool must be interpreted cautiously in this context. While the peak heat intensity has softened, Monday's maximum temperature was still 2.6 degrees above the typical seasonal average for this time of year. Nighttime provided some relief, with a minimum temperature of 22.6°C, but this too remained 3.5 degrees higher than the normal range for mid-March, indicating that the overall warmth continues to linger.
Gujarat's Broader Heatwave Scenario
Ahmedabad was not isolated in experiencing elevated temperatures. Across Gujarat, several cities reported similarly high readings. Rajkot emerged as the hottest spot in the state, recording a maximum of 38.3°C. It was closely followed by Surendranagar at 37.8°C, and Bhuj and Ahmedabad both at 37.7°C. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Tuesday is expected to mirror Monday's conditions, maintaining the city in a pattern of unseasonable warmth for the immediate future.
Forecast Predicts Gradual Cooling Ahead
For residents fatigued by the persistent heat, there is encouraging news on the horizon. The IMD has forecast a gradual cooling trend across Gujarat, with daytime temperatures anticipated to decline by an additional 2-3 degrees over the next four days. This predicted shift suggests that more significant relief from the heatwave may be imminent, offering hope for a return to more typical seasonal weather patterns in the region.
