Balochistan Disappearances Spark Fear as Pakistan Security Forces Implicated
The recent disappearances of several individuals in Balochistan have been directly linked to Pakistan's security apparatus, igniting profound fear and anxiety among affected families. At least seven people are reported missing in incidents connected to the regions of Panjgur and Karachi, with allegations pointing to raids and detentions conducted by armed personnel.
Panjgur Raid: Homes Searched and Six Detained
Residents of Pulabad, a locality in Panjgur, described a recent raid where armed personnel conducted searches in homes and detained at least six people. Witnesses stated that those taken were transported to unknown locations, leaving families in distress. Locals mentioned two names, Inayat and Rasheed, while the identities of the other detainees could not be independently confirmed, as reported by ANI citing The Balochistan Post.
Case of Zulfiqar: Seized from Tasp Marketplace
In a separate and alarming case, 23-year-old Zulfiqar, son of Hameed and a resident of Tasp, was reportedly seized from a marketplace on February 13, 2026. Locals alleged that men linked to a state-backed armed faction, commonly described as a "death squad," carried out the detention. Family members have not received any information regarding his condition since the incident, heightening concerns for his safety.
Zakir Noor: Student Detained in Karachi
Another case raising significant alarm involves Zakir Noor, a student from Panjgur, who was allegedly detained in Karachi on December 30, 2025. The Baloch rights organisation Paank reported that he was taken by security personnel without legal documentation. Noor has not contacted his family since, fueling fears that he may have been transferred to an undisclosed detention site, a practice that violates international safeguards.
Human Rights Concerns and International Violations
Paank emphasized that secret confinement places detainees at serious risk and breaches international safeguards against arbitrary arrest. Activists added that this pattern disproportionately affects students and young men, especially those who migrate to major cities for education or work, underscoring a systemic issue in the region.
The ongoing disappearances in Balochistan highlight critical human rights concerns, with families left in the dark and communities living in fear. The involvement of Pakistan's security forces in these incidents continues to draw scrutiny from rights organisations and international observers.
