Bengaluru's Bannerghatta Biological Park to Construct New Observation Tower
Bannerghatta Biological Park (BBP) in Bengaluru is set to enhance its visitor experience with the development of a new observation tower within the zoo premises. This initiative aims to promote conservation awareness while offering immersive nature-based learning opportunities.
Partnership and Funding Details
The project will be developed in partnership with Rohini Nilekani Philanthropies, which is funding the Rs 5-crore initiative through a grant. A memorandum of understanding was signed on March 24 between Rohini Nilekani Philanthropies and BBP, a unit under the Zoo Authority of Karnataka.
Design and Features of the Tower
The proposed 25-metre-high tower will provide panoramic views of Bannerghatta National Park and the Bengaluru skyline. Designed to accommodate 50-70 visitors at a time, the structure will incorporate sustainable features such as solar energy systems and rainwater harvesting. Officials have stated that the tower will include educational elements and curated experiences to encourage nature-based learning and responsible tourism.
Impact on Conservation and Visitor Engagement
BBP, which attracts over 2.2 million visitors annually, plays a crucial role in wildlife rescue, conservation, and public education. BBP executive director AV Surya Sen emphasized that this initiative will strengthen conservation outreach while enhancing visitor engagement. "The proposed observation tower will not only enhance visitor experience through immersive, nature-based learning, but will also stand as a symbol of our dedication to environmentally responsible infrastructure," he said.
