Bihar Grapples with Intense Pre-Monsoon Weather Conditions
Due to the confluence of western disturbances and anti-cyclonic winds from the Bay of Bengal over Bihar, nearly all districts in the state are currently experiencing severe weather patterns. This includes gusty winds, thunderstorms, and heavy cloud cover, disrupting normal activities and posing risks to agriculture.
IMD Issues Critical Weather Alerts
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Patna has issued an alert regarding this pre-monsoon phenomenon, which is an annual occurrence typically lasting from March to May. Sanjay Kumar, a meteorologist at IMD Patna, explained, "Such activity is common during the pre-monsoon season." He added that weather conditions are expected to gradually return to normal after Saturday, with temperatures rising back to typical levels.
Impact on Agriculture and Farmer Advisory
Kumar cautioned that the ongoing weather could harm key crops like wheat and corn. To mitigate damage, he advised farmers to stop or reduce irrigation during this period and consider moving crops to shaded areas for protection.
Affected Districts and Specific Warnings
While most districts in Bihar are affected, with exceptions in central regions, the most impacted areas include East and West Champaran, Sitamarhi, Madhubani, Gaya, and Nalanda. In its Friday bulletin, the IMD issued an orange warning for Saturday for thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds of 50-60 kmph in Katihar, Kishanganj, and Araria. Additionally, a yellow warning was issued for thunderstorms, lightning, and winds of 40-50 kmph across most state districts.
This weather event underscores the importance of preparedness during the pre-monsoon season, with authorities urging residents and farmers to stay informed and take necessary precautions.
