CREDAI Launches Second Phase of Major Ecological Reforestation Drive in Western Ghats
The Confederation of Real Estate Developers' Associations of India (CREDAI) has officially launched the second phase of its flagship ecological reforestation initiative, focusing on the biodiverse Western Ghats region. This ambitious project aims to build on the significant progress already achieved in restoring degraded forest lands.
Substantial Restoration Achievements to Date
To date, the initiative has successfully restored more than 3,500 acres of land through comprehensive ecological interventions. The restoration process involves the strategic planting of native-species plantations, which are crucial for maintaining the region's unique biodiversity and ecological balance.
The project employs a multi-faceted approach to ensure the long-term health and sustainability of the restored areas. Key techniques include:
- Soil Preparation: Enhancing soil quality to support plant growth.
- Trenching: Creating trenches to manage water flow and prevent erosion.
- Mulching: Applying organic mulch to retain soil moisture and suppress weeds.
- Moisture Conservation: Implementing methods to reduce water loss and support plant hydration.
- Water-Harvesting Interventions: Developing systems to capture and utilize rainwater effectively.
Leadership and Future Goals
Mr. Shekar Patel, President of CREDAI, emphasized the organization's commitment to environmental stewardship through this ongoing project. The launch of the second phase marks a critical step in scaling up efforts to combat deforestation and promote ecological resilience in one of India's most vital natural landscapes.
The Western Ghats, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a global biodiversity hotspot. CREDAI's reforestation drive not only contributes to carbon sequestration and climate change mitigation but also supports local ecosystems and communities dependent on these forests.
