Cyclone Ditwah Disrupts Education Across Tamil Nadu

The Indian peninsula is bracing for severe weather conditions as Cyclone Ditwah approaches, prompting significant precautionary measures across Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. The Tamil Nadu School Education Department has declared a holiday for all educational institutions across the state on Saturday, November 29, 2025, while Pondicherry Central University has postponed all examinations scheduled for the same date.

IMD Red Alert Triggers Safety Measures

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert predicting heavy rainfall in coastal districts and adjoining areas, leading to immediate administrative action. The School Education Department's circular explicitly stated that no special classes should be conducted during the closure period, emphasizing the seriousness of the weather threat.

Heavy rainfall continues to batter Tamil Nadu as Cyclone Ditwah prepares for landfall on November 30. Waterlogging has been reported in several low-lying areas, with streets and roads inundated due to the intense downpour accompanying the cyclonic storm.

Regional Impact and Weather Warnings

Specific districts including Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, Villupuram, and Chengalpattu remain under IMD's red alert today for extremely heavy rainfall. Additionally, numerous other Tamil Nadu districts are under orange alert, indicating preparedness for significant weather disruption.

The orange alert covers Pudukkottai, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Ariyalur, Perambalur, Tiruchirappalli, Salem, Kallakurichi, Tiruvannamalai, Chennai, Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur, and Ranipet. The Karaikal area is also included in the orange alert category.

Pondicherry Central University officially notified students that all classes and examinations scheduled for November 29 stand postponed, with revised dates to be communicated later. The decision came following communication from the Coast Guard District in Puducherry and continues the advisory circular dated November 27.

High waves and rough sea conditions have been reported along Tamil Nadu's shoreline, creating dangerous coastal conditions as the cyclone approaches the Indian peninsula. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely, urging residents to follow safety protocols and stay updated with official weather bulletins.
