Delhi-NCR Weather Update: Light Rain and Cloudy Skies Prevail
On Monday, parts of Delhi-NCR witnessed a cloudy spell accompanied by light rain, with weather officials predicting more showers over the next few hours and throughout the week. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) attributed this weather pattern to a western disturbance active over Jammu and adjoining areas, combined with an upper air cyclonic circulation over central Pakistan.
IMD Forecast and Yellow Alert for Haryana
According to the IMD, light to moderate rain is likely at isolated places in Haryana on specific dates: March 23, 25, 26, and 28, with more widespread showers expected on March 29. In response, the weather department has issued a yellow alert for parts of Haryana on March 26 and 29, warning of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching speeds of 30 to 40 kmph.
Despite the rainfall, maximum temperatures are projected to rise by 3 to 5°C over the next four days, with no significant changes thereafter. This indicates a gradual shift towards warmer conditions in the region.
Detailed Weather Observations and Predictions
Meteorologist Navdeep Dahiya noted on social media platform X that cloudy weather prevailed across the National Capital Region (NCR), with light rain observed over north Delhi and Ghaziabad. Day temperatures are expected to remain below 25°C. Dahiya further explained that the current western disturbance is feeble and unlikely to bring widespread rainfall, estimating that nearly 60 to 70% of areas may not receive any rain.
He added that dry and clear weather is likely to return on March 24 and 25, before another weak western disturbance affects north India around March 26.
Temperature Trends in Gurgaon and Haryana
In Gurgaon, the minimum temperature settled at 16.6°C, marking an increase of 3.8°C from the previous day, as per IMD data. The maximum temperature was recorded at 28.5°C, up by 0.3°C. Despite this rise, day temperatures remained below normal levels.
Across Haryana, the average minimum temperature increased by approximately 1.9°C on Monday. The average maximum temperature also rose by 0.4°C but stayed 2°C below normal. Bhiwani recorded the highest maximum temperature at 30.7°C.
Outlook for the Coming Days
Weather officials have indicated that intermittent showers and cloud cover are likely to persist, offering brief relief before temperatures begin to rise steadily across the region. This pattern aligns with the IMD's forecast of gradual warming following the current rainy spell.
