Delhi Weather Update: Clear Skies Followed by Incoming Rain
Delhi residents enjoyed a bright and sunny morning on Wednesday, marking a stark contrast to the previous evening's cloudy conditions and intermittent rainfall. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has indicated that this clear weather pattern is likely to persist for the next two days, with temperatures expected to climb steadily.
Temperature Surge and Upcoming Weather Changes
According to IMD officials, the mercury is projected to approach 37 degrees Celsius by Thursday, bringing a brief spell of warmer conditions to the national capital. However, this rise in temperature is set to be short-lived, as a fresh western disturbance is anticipated to impact the region starting from Friday.
"A new western disturbance will begin influencing northwest India from April 2. On April 3 and 4, scattered light rain is likely in Delhi-NCR. Cloudy skies and rainfall will lead to a drop in temperatures after a brief rise on Wednesday and Thursday," an IMD official explained. This weather system is expected to bring scattered light showers, providing much-needed relief from the heat and lowering temperatures across the city.
Rainfall Data and March Weather Recap
Rainfall recorded across various parts of Delhi until 5:30 PM on Tuesday showcased varied precipitation levels. Key measurements included 2.1 mm at Safdarjung, 2.6 mm at Palam, 2.8 mm at Lodhi Road, 2.4 mm at Ridge, and 2.2 mm at Ayanagar.
Reflecting on the broader weather trends, March concluded with a total of 20 mm of rainfall at Safdarjung, exceeding the long-period average (LPA) of 17.4 mm for the month. Despite this wetter end, March emerged as the warmest in four years, recording an average maximum temperature of 32.6°C. This figure represents the highest since 2022, when the average maximum temperature reached 33.4°C.
Expert Insights on April Weather Outlook
Weather experts predict that April will commence on a relatively cooler note, thanks to anticipated western disturbances. Mahesh Palawat, vice-president at Skymet, stated, "Two more western disturbances are expected — from April 2 to 4 and again from April 6 to 9 — which will bring cloud cover and rainfall, keeping maximum temperatures in check." This forecast suggests that Delhi can expect intermittent rain and cloudiness in the coming days, potentially moderating the early summer heat.
Overall, Delhi's weather is poised for a dynamic shift, transitioning from sunny and warm conditions to cooler, rainier days as multiple western disturbances influence the region in early April.
