Dubai's Al Qudra Road Bridge Achieves Major Traffic Milestone with 191% Capacity Surge
In a significant advancement for Dubai's transportation network, the newly completed bridge on Al Qudra Road has dramatically increased traffic capacity, now accommodating 19,200 vehicles per hour. This marks a 191% jump from the previous capacity of 6,600 vehicles per hour, as announced by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA). The project is a cornerstone of efforts to upgrade Dubai's east–west road corridors, enhancing mobility across the city.
Key Features and Impact of the New Bridge
The 600-metre, four-lane bridge is strategically located at the intersection of Al Qudra Road and the link road connecting Arabian Ranches and Dubai Studio City. Part of the main intersections development project along Al Qudra Road, it plays a pivotal role in improving traffic flow. According to the RTA, the bridge has reduced waiting times at the junction by 55%, cutting delays from 113 seconds to just 52 seconds, thereby easing congestion and shortening travel times.
Expansion and Future Developments
Further enhancing infrastructure, the RTA will open the northern bridge at the intersection of Al Qudra Road and Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street on February 15. This 700-metre structure provides two lanes in each direction, serving traffic towards Al Qudra City and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, pending completion of the southern bridge. The corridor extends from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road to Emirates Road, supporting major development areas such as Arabian Ranches, Dubai Motor City, and The Sustainable City.
Strategic Importance and Community Benefits
Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the RTA, emphasized that this project "increases capacity, improves traffic efficiency at strategic intersections, reduces congestion, and shortens travel times between key destinations." It ensures smoother traffic flow along Al Qudra Road towards Emirates Road and Al Qudra City, while enhancing road safety and supporting urban growth and economic activity in the communities served by the corridor.
This infrastructure development underscores Dubai's commitment to strengthening its mobility ecosystem, with the Al Qudra Road bridge set to transform daily commutes and bolster connectivity across the region.
