Dubai Accelerates Mosque Expansion Ahead of Ramadan 2026
As the crescent moon heralds the arrival of the Holy Month, Dubai is undertaking a profound spiritual and infrastructural expansion. The Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department (IACAD) has announced a major initiative to open 15 new mosques, responding to the city's booming population and the heightened devotional needs of Ramadan. With 10 mosques already operational and five more scheduled to debut during the month, this effort ensures that every resident has convenient access to a place of worship and peace.
Strategic Locations Spanning Dubai's Vibrant Neighborhoods
The new mosques are strategically distributed across Dubai's most dynamic residential areas, from the tranquil suburbs of Al Khawaneej to the lively streets of Al Barsha. This geographic diversity aims to reduce overcrowding and foster more intimate, supportive environments for Taraweeh and Qiyam prayers. Key additions include the Zamzam Mosque in Al Barsha South 2, the Al Ghani Mosque in Airport City, and the Hind Saif Al Ghurair Mosque in Al Khawaneej 2. Other notable sites are the Ali bin Abdullah Gargash Mosque in Umm Hurair 2 and the Al Rahman Mosque in Umm Suqeim 2.
Mohammed Jassim Al Mansoori, Director of Customer Service at IACAD, emphasized that these openings reflect the leadership's commitment to facilitating religious practice. He stated that the mosques are designed not merely as buildings but as "spiritual and social hubs" that enhance the quality of life in neighborhoods. During Ramadan, they will host community events under the "Season of Al-Wolfa" (Season of Harmony), focusing on family cohesion through youth initiatives like "Muezzin of the Neighborhood" and educational programs for children.
Comprehensive Operational Plans for a Seamless Experience
To ensure a smooth and enriching experience for thousands of daily visitors, IACAD has implemented a rigorous operational strategy. This includes:
- Comprehensive maintenance checks to uphold safety and cleanliness.
- Advanced cooling systems to combat the summer heat, ensuring comfort during prayers.
- A specialized team of world-class Imams, known as the "Reciters of Dubai," who will lead night prayers with melodious voices across new and existing mosques.
In line with Dubai's push for inclusivity, many locations will offer English translations for Friday sermons, making Ramadan's message accessible to the city's diverse population.
Future Vision: 55 New Mosques and a 3D-Printed Sanctuary
While the immediate focus is on the 15 mosques for Ramadan 2026, Dubai's long-term vision is even more ambitious. Plans are underway for a total of 55 new mosques across the emirate, with an estimated cost of Dh475 million. A highlight of this future expansion is the UAE's first 3D-printed mosque, slated for completion in mid-2026. This eco-friendly, high-tech sanctuary will accommodate 600 worshippers, symbolizing how Dubai seamlessly blends ancient tradition with cutting-edge innovation.
For now, the emphasis remains on the present, ensuring that the 2026 Ramadan season is the most accessible and spiritually enriching one yet, with these new mosques serving as beacons of community and faith.
