Ghaziabad: District magistrate Ravindra Kumar Mandar on Wednesday evening chaired a meeting of the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) and directed department officials to implement measures aimed at controlling road dust to address the district's air pollution levels. Chief development officer Kumar Saurabh and other concerned officers were also present at the meeting.
Action Plan for Dust-Free City
The DM instructed the Ghaziabad Development Authority, Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation (GMC), Public Works Department (PWD), and other relevant departments to take steps to achieve visible results. In compliance with this directive, municipal commissioner Vikramaditya Singh Malik presented an action plan to make the city completely dust-free. Taking note of the suggestions, Mandar asked officials of the civic bodies to work jointly and run a campaign based on the action plan.
Coverage of All Roads
The DM stated that roads not under GMC jurisdiction, including those maintained by the Housing Development Council or PWD, would also be included in the plan. Mandar also urged officials to conduct on-site inspections before initiating the campaign.
Malik informed the meeting that a GMC-run campaign is already underway, in which roads are being regularly swept using mechanical sweepers. He added, "Tankers fitted with water sprinklers are used throughout the day to help settle fugitive dust." The collaborative effort aims to significantly reduce dust-related air pollution in Ghaziabad.
