Residents of Goa felt a noticeable change in the night-time chill on Monday as the state recorded a slight but distinct increase in minimum temperatures. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has noted this shift, which marks a departure from the recent cooler trend.
Temperature Readings Show Upward Trend
The coastal state's capital, Panaji, recorded a minimum temperature of 20.7 degrees Celsius. The port town of Mormugao was even warmer, with the mercury dipping only to 21.4 degrees Celsius. This is notably higher than the temperatures recorded in the preceding days, where nighttime lows largely remained between 18 and 20 degrees Celsius.
On the other hand, the maximum temperature for the day was recorded at 32.4 degrees Celsius by the IMD. This reading is close to the normal maximum of 33 degrees Celsius for this time of year, showing a departure of just over one degree.
IMD Forecast: Gradual Warming Ahead
The meteorological authority has forecast a gradual rise in minimum temperatures by 1 to 2 degrees over the next three to four days across Goa. This indicates a slow but steady warming trend during the night and early morning hours. The IMD has stated that dry weather is very likely to prevail over the state until January 11.
Early Morning Haze Expected
Alongside the dry conditions, the weather department has predicted the occurrence of shallow to moderate haze or mist at isolated places during the early morning hours over the same period. This could potentially impact visibility for commuters and early morning activities.
This shift in weather patterns, while subtle, signals a change in the winter conditions for the popular tourist destination. Locals and visitors can expect slightly warmer nights and stable, dry days in the immediate future as per the IMD's analysis.
