Gujarat Experiences Temperature Surge as Western Disturbance Fades

With the influence of the Western Disturbance diminishing across various parts of India, temperatures have started to climb once again in Gujarat. On Tuesday, Ahmedabad city recorded a maximum temperature of 41°C, which is 0.8 degrees above the normal level for this time of year. This marks a notable shift from the past few days when the city experienced relatively stable temperatures hovering around 40°C.

Temperature Details and IMD Forecast

The minimum temperature in Ahmedabad also remained elevated, registering at 26.8°C, which is 1.7 degrees higher than the usual average. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), there is unlikely to be any significant change in maximum temperatures over the next three days. However, a gradual increase of 2–3°C is anticipated after that period.

The IMD has issued a warning regarding hot and humid conditions that are expected to prevail in the coastal areas of Gujarat on April 24 and 25. This advisory highlights the need for residents to take precautions against the rising heat.

Other Cities Recording High Temperatures

Among other cities in Gujarat, Amreli recorded the highest maximum temperature at 41.1°C. This was followed by Kandla and Ahmedabad, both at 41°C, Rajkot at 40.7°C, Gandhinagar at 40.5°C, and Surendranagar at 40.3°C. These figures indicate a widespread temperature increase across the state.

IMD Director General's Warning on Heatwave Days

IMD Director General Mrityunjay Mohapatra has indicated that Gujarat is likely to witness a higher than normal number of heatwave days this year. He noted that several regions across India, including parts of Gujarat, Maharashtra, and the Indo-Gangetic plains, are expected to experience above-normal heatwave conditions.

"Certain regions are climatologically prone to high temperatures. For instance, areas like Vidarbha in Maharashtra typically record temperatures of 41–42°C during this period, while states like Uttar Pradesh and Haryana experience temperatures rising to 40–44°C by May," Mohapatra stated. He urged authorities and the public to prepare for intense heat in the coming weeks, emphasizing the importance of heatwave preparedness measures.

The rising temperatures underscore the need for vigilance and adaptive strategies to mitigate the impacts of heatwaves, particularly in regions identified as high-risk by meteorological experts.
