Gurgaon Hits 0.6°C as Cold Wave Grips North India

Residents of Gurgaon woke up to a frigid Monday morning as the mercury plunged to a startling 0.6 degrees Celsius. This new low marks the coldest temperature recorded so far this season, as a severe cold wave continues to hold North India in its icy grasp.

IMD Forecast Predicts Chilly Days Ahead

The India Meteorological Department has issued a detailed forecast for Gurgaon, indicating that the cold spell is far from over. Officials expect temperatures to hover between 4°C and 6°C in the immediate term, with foggy mornings and partly cloudy skies dominating the weather pattern.

Detailed Weather Outlook for Gurgaon

Cold Wave Alert Remains in Force

The IMD has confirmed that cold wave and dense fog conditions will likely persist. An official from the meteorological department stated that temperatures dropped significantly by nearly 3.5 degrees compared to Sunday. "The cold wave and dense fog weather conditions are likely to continue in Gurugram until Tuesday," the official told Hindustan Times.

This recent dip to 0.6°C on Monday morning, as reported by the Chandigarh office of IMD, follows a pattern of falling temperatures. Gurgaon had previously recorded 1.8°C on Saturday and 4.1°C on Sunday, showing a consistent downward trend.

Broader Impact Across the Region

The biting cold is not confined to Gurgaon alone. Delhi also experienced severe conditions, with the minimum temperature dropping to three degrees Celsius at Lodhi Road on Monday. This comes after Ayanagar recorded a low of 2.9°C the previous day.

IMD officials emphasize that these conditions represent a significant intensification of the winter season. The previous lowest temperature this year was 3.8°C recorded on January 3, making Monday's reading particularly notable.

Residents are advised to take necessary precautions against the cold, especially during early morning and late evening hours when temperatures are at their lowest. The persistent fog may also affect visibility, potentially impacting travel plans.
