Heavy Rain Disrupts Himachal: 44 Roads Blocked, 254 Transformers Affected

Widespread Rain Wreaks Havoc Across Himachal Pradesh

Heavy rain has caused significant disruption across Himachal Pradesh as the monsoon advances, blocking 44 roads and disrupting 254 power transformers, according to the State Emergency Operation Centre. Mandi district is the worst affected, accounting for 28 of the blocked roads and 198 of the damaged transformers.

The rain, which has been lashing the state since Monday, has also affected power supply in several areas, with Sirmaur reporting 44 disrupted transformers, Kullu 11, and Lahaul and Spiti one. Officials are working to restore services, but the continuous downpour is hampering efforts.

Orange Alert Issued for Seven Districts

The Meteorological Centre has issued an orange alert for Wednesday for Kullu, Kangra, Mandi, Hamirpur, Bilaspur, Una, and Chamba districts, warning of heavy rain and thunderstorms at isolated places. A yellow alert has been issued for Shimla, Kinnaur, and Lahaul and Spiti, where light to moderate rain is expected.

Residents in the affected areas have been advised to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel. The state government has deployed disaster response teams to assist in relief operations.

Impact on Infrastructure and Daily Life

The blocked roads have disrupted transportation, particularly in Mandi and Kullu, where 12 roads are closed. The damage to transformers has led to power outages, affecting thousands of households. The State Emergency Operation Centre is monitoring the situation and coordinating with local authorities to restore normalcy.

According to the Met department, the monsoon is expected to remain active over the next few days, with more rain likely. The orange alert indicates that the weather could cause flooding in low-lying areas and landslides in vulnerable zones.

Authorities have urged people to exercise caution and report any emergencies to the control room. The situation is being closely watched as the monsoon season progresses.
