Andhra Pradesh Weather Update: IMD Issues Four-Day Thunderstorm Alert
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a significant weather alert for multiple districts in Andhra Pradesh, forecasting continued thundershower activity over the coming days. This announcement follows a period of light to moderate rainfall that provided much-needed respite from the intense summer heat across the state.
Recent Rainfall Patterns and Relief from Heat
Over the past two days, various parts of Andhra Pradesh experienced light to moderate rainfall, effectively breaking the sweltering heat conditions that had prevailed. The IMD reported that rainfall occurred at one or two locations in coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, while dry weather conditions were observed in Rayalaseema between Saturday morning and Sunday morning.
Specific rainfall measurements highlighted significant precipitation in certain areas. Amaravati in Guntur district and Vepada in Vizianagaram district each recorded four centimeters of rainfall. Additionally, Lam village in Guntur district received three centimeters of rainfall, demonstrating the localized intensity of the weather events.
Detailed Meteorological Conditions and Forecast
The meteorological agency explained that the current weather patterns are driven by specific atmospheric conditions. An upper air cyclonic circulation persists over south interior Karnataka and its neighboring regions. Simultaneously, lower tropospheric south-easterly and south-westerly winds are prevailing over Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, creating the ideal environment for continued precipitation.
According to the IMD's comprehensive forecast, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are likely to occur at isolated places over coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, and Rayalaseema from March 23 to March 26. This four-day period represents an extended phase of active weather that residents and authorities should prepare for accordingly.
Wind Speed Predictions and Safety Precautions
The weather agency has also issued warnings regarding potentially hazardous wind conditions during this period. Gusty winds with speeds ranging from 30 to 40 kilometers per hour are anticipated at isolated locations across the affected regions. In some areas, these winds may reach maximum speeds of up to 50 kilometers per hour, posing potential risks to infrastructure and outdoor activities.
Residents in coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, and Rayalaseema districts are advised to take necessary precautions during this extended period of active weather. The combination of thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds requires heightened awareness and preparedness measures to ensure public safety and minimize potential damage to property.
The IMD continues to monitor the situation closely and will provide updates as the weather patterns evolve over the coming days. This extended forecast allows local authorities and residents to plan accordingly for the anticipated weather conditions across multiple districts of Andhra Pradesh.
