IMD Forecast: Cyclone Shakthi's Remnants Bring Heavy Rain to South India
IMD Weather Alert: Heavy Rain in South India Until Oct 14

IMD Issues Detailed Weather Forecast as Cyclone Shakthi's Influence Continues

The India Meteorological Department has released its comprehensive All India Weather Forecast Bulletin for October 9, 2025, outlining significant weather patterns affecting the nation. The report highlights the persistent impact of Cyclone Shakthi's remnants in the Arabian Sea, alongside the ongoing withdrawal of the southwest monsoon from several Indian states.

Cyclonic Systems Driving Southern Rainfall

Multiple weather systems continue to influence southern and eastern regions despite Cyclone Shakthi losing its original intensity. A significant trough extends from south Odisha to the Comorin area, affecting coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, and Tamil Nadu with heavy rainfall and thunderstorms. Simultaneously, cyclonic circulations persist over south Bangladesh, the Comorin region, north Kerala, and central Assam, bringing substantial precipitation to these areas.

The meteorological department forecasts light to moderate rainfall or thunderstorms across many locations in South India until October 14, 2025. Specific regions expecting heavy to very heavy rainfall include coastal Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, south interior Karnataka, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Rayalaseema, and parts of Kerala and Mahe.

Wind Patterns and Coastal Warnings

Strong surface winds ranging between 30-40 kmph are anticipated along coastal Andhra Pradesh. More concerning are the squally weather conditions with wind speeds of 35-55 kmph predicted for the Karnataka and Kerala coasts, Lakshadweep area, Gulf of Mannar, and the west-central Arabian Sea.

The IMD has issued crucial safety advisories, strongly recommending against venturing into the sea under these conditions. Fishing communities and shipping operations should exercise extreme caution and avoid unnecessary maritime activities until weather conditions improve.

Regional Weather Variations Across India

Eastern states present a mixed weather picture. Odisha can expect light to moderate rain or thunderstorms with isolated heavy showers until October 12. Meanwhile, Bihar, Jharkhand, and West Bengal will experience only isolated or scattered rainfall with generally low precipitation intensity.

Northeastern India remains under the influence of lingering cyclonic circulations and monsoon troughs. States including Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura will see light to moderate rainfall, with isolated heavy rainfall expected on October 10. However, rainfall activity is predicted to decrease significantly after this period, transitioning to scattered or isolated patterns.

Central and northern regions tell a different story altogether. Most parts of Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Vidarbha are expected to remain predominantly dry. Similarly, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, and Gujarat will experience dry weather conditions as the southwest monsoon continues its withdrawal process.

Temperature Extremes and Monsoon Withdrawal Progress

The changing weather patterns have brought noticeable temperature variations across the country. In northern regions, Una in Himachal Pradesh recorded the lowest minimum temperature at 11.2 degrees Celsius, while Basti in Uttar Pradesh experienced the highest maximum temperature reaching 38 degrees Celsius.

The southwest monsoon withdrawal is progressing steadily from remaining areas in Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and parts of Maharashtra within the next 24 hours. This withdrawal signals the beginning of cooler temperatures and clearer skies in northwest and central India in the coming weeks.

Safety Advisories and Regional Impacts

The IMD has urged residents, travelers, and local authorities in rainfall-prone regions to maintain vigilance. Coastal areas in south India may experience localized flooding, waterlogging, and disruptions to transportation networks due to heavy rainfall and strong winds.

Citizens are advised to follow local government advisories closely and avoid non-essential travel during thunderstorms. Meanwhile, dry northern and central regions will enjoy clear skies and favorable conditions for outdoor activities, though continued monitoring of temperature trends remains advisable.

Farmers, coastal dwellers, and travelers across all affected regions should stay informed through official weather updates and adjust their activities according to the latest IMD bulletins as the weather patterns gradually stabilize throughout the coming week.
