IMD Issues Weather Alert: Jharkhand Braces for Temperature Drop This Weekend
The Ranchi office of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a significant weather forecast for the state of Jharkhand. According to their latest bulletin released on Thursday, residents should prepare for a noticeable dip in minimum temperatures across the city and the entire region over the coming three days, starting from Friday.
Scientific Explanation Behind the Cooling Trend
Abhishek Anand, a scientist at IMD Ranchi, provided detailed insights into the meteorological factors driving this change. He explained that the anticipated decrease in night-time mercury levels, expected to fall by two to three notches over the weekend, is primarily due to the influence of north-westerly winds blowing into the state.
"Due to the western disturbance, north-west India is currently experiencing heavy rainfall and hailstorms," Anand stated. "Consequently, the wind currents originating from that region and moving towards Jharkhand are likely to impact our minimum temperatures significantly from Friday through Sunday."
Current Temperature Statistics and Projections
The minimum temperature across Jharkhand is presently fluctuating between 9°C and 13°C. Specific recordings from Thursday highlight the variations:
- Ranchi recorded a minimum of 13.4°C
- Jamshedpur registered 15.7°C
- Daltonganj measured 11.1°C
- Bokaro noted 12.6°C
- Gumla experienced the lowest at 9.7°C
Anand further clarified that this cooling phase is temporary. "The minimum temperature will not witness any significant alteration until February 10," he said. "However, a reversal is expected only after February 11, when the minimum temperature is likely to rise again."
Rising Maximum Temperatures Across the State
In contrast to the dipping minimums, maximum temperatures throughout Jharkhand have begun displaying an upward trajectory, surpassing normal levels. Thursday's maximum temperature readings illustrate this warming trend:
- Ranchi: 26.2°C, marking a 0.1°C increase above normal
- Jamshedpur: 30.2°C, a substantial 1.2°C rise from normal
- Daltonganj: 29.2°C, showing a 1.7°C increase
- Bokaro: 28.2°C, with a notable 3.6°C elevation
- Chaibasa: 30.8°C, the highest in the state, representing a 3.1°C increase from normal
Extended Range Forecast Until February 19
The meteorological department has also released an extended range forecast for Jharkhand, covering the period up to February 19. According to the IMD bulletin, dry weather conditions are most probable to prevail across the state during this timeframe.
The forecast outlines two distinct phases:
- From February 6 to February 12, normal to above-normal maximum temperatures are anticipated, ranging between 24°C and 31°C.
- From February 13 to February 19, the maximum temperature is expected to lie within the range of 26°C to 33°C statewide.
This comprehensive weather update underscores the dynamic climatic patterns affecting Jharkhand, with immediate cooling followed by a return to warmer, drier conditions in the coming weeks.
