Kerala Anticipates Weekend Rainfall as IMD Predicts Weather Shift
Despite ongoing dry conditions across Kerala, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a forecast predicting rain over the coming weekend. This expected change is attributed to the influence of a developing low-pressure area over the east equatorial Indian Ocean and adjoining central parts of the south Bay of Bengal.
Formation and Movement of Low-Pressure System
Under this influence, a low-pressure area has formed over the same region. The associated upper-air cyclonic circulation extends up to 5.8 kilometers above mean sea level. According to IMD projections, this system is likely to move in a west-northwestward direction and become more pronounced over the southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining east equatorial Indian Ocean around Wednesday.
Current High Temperatures Across Kerala
Meanwhile, the state continues to experience elevated temperatures, highlighting the persistent dry weather. Kannur recorded a high of 38°C, marking a significant 3° rise from the 35°C observed on Sunday, with relative humidity around 55%. Other regions also reported above-normal readings:
- Cial Kochi: 36.1°C, which is 1.5° above its normal temperature.
- Kottayam: 35.4°C, a 1.3° rise from its normal level.
- Kozhikode: 34.7°C, also 1.3° above its typical average.
These temperature anomalies underscore the current heat conditions, making the IMD's rain forecast a potential relief for residents and agriculture. The combination of dry spells and sudden rainfall predictions emphasizes the dynamic nature of Kerala's weather patterns, with authorities monitoring the situation closely for any further developments.
