Leopard Cub Succumbs After Rescue and Treatment Efforts in Uttar Pradesh
A young leopard cub that was rescued from an agricultural field in the village of Mohammadpur Dhyansingh, located within the Moradabad Forest Division, has tragically passed away during medical treatment at the Etawah Safari Park. The unfortunate incident occurred on Friday evening, as confirmed by forest department officials who have been closely monitoring the case.
Rescue and Initial Efforts to Reunite with Mother
The leopard cub was first discovered and rescued on March 9, sparking immediate concern among wildlife authorities. Forest department personnel made concerted efforts over the following three days to locate and reunite the cub with its mother in the surrounding natural habitat. Despite these diligent attempts, the search proved unsuccessful, leaving the cub without maternal care and in a vulnerable state.
Deteriorating Health and Transfer to Specialized Facility
As the cub's health began to deteriorate significantly, the conservator of forests for the Moradabad region sought urgent permission from the principal chief conservator of forests (Wildlife) for the state of Uttar Pradesh. This authorization was granted, leading to the cub's transfer to the Etawah Safari Park late on the night of March 12 for advanced veterinary treatment and specialized care.
A team of experienced veterinarians at the safari park immediately initiated intensive treatment protocols upon the cub's arrival. However, despite their best efforts and round-the-clock medical attention, the cub could not be saved and died on Friday evening.
Postmortem Examination Conducted
Following the cub's death, Anil Patel, the director of Etawah Safari Park, confirmed that a panel of doctors conducted a thorough postmortem examination. This procedure is standard protocol in such cases to determine the exact cause of death and gather valuable information that could aid in future wildlife rescue and rehabilitation efforts.
