The residents of Ludhiana continue to experience warmer-than-usual temperatures for this time of year, but meteorological experts indicate significant changes are on the horizon. According to the latest forecasts, the city is poised for a noticeable temperature decline within the next 48 hours, potentially leading to the season's first proper cold wave during the initial weeks of December.
Met Department's Weather Projections
In an exclusive conversation with TOI, Surinderpal, Director of the Met Department in Chandigarh, provided detailed insights into the expected weather patterns. He confirmed that current temperatures would maintain their stability for approximately two more days before beginning their descent. The meteorological expert specifically highlighted that Ludhiana might experience a cold wave around the first or second week of December, though he characterized it as likely to be moderate in intensity.
The detailed forecast suggests nighttime temperatures could plunge to 4-5 degrees Celsius below normal seasonal averages, signaling the proper arrival of winter conditions that residents have been anticipating.
Detailed Temperature Forecast
According to the meteorological department's official website, Ludhiana can expect predominantly clear skies on Sunday, with weather conditions shifting to "partly cloudy" from Monday through Thursday. The temperature projections provide a clearer picture of the incoming changes:
Day temperatures are expected to remain at 24 degrees Celsius for the next two days before decreasing to 23 degrees on Tuesday, where they will likely stay for the subsequent three days.
Night temperatures present a more pronounced cooling trend, projected to be recorded at 8 degrees Celsius from Sunday through Tuesday, then dropping further to 7 degrees on Wednesday with similar conditions expected for Thursday.
Residents' Experience and Expectations
The current winter season has been noticeably milder than typical patterns, leaving many Ludhiana residents waiting for the characteristic chill that usually arrives by late November. Recent temperature readings confirm this anomaly – on Saturday, the maximum daytime temperature reached 24.4 degrees Celsius, which stands 0.2 degrees above normal, while the night temperature recorded 8 degrees Celsius, also 0.2 degrees higher than seasonal averages.
Narinder Singh, a local resident, shared his observations about the delayed winter conditions. "Typically, Ludhiana experiences definite cold by the end of November, but we haven't felt that characteristic chill this year," he noted. Singh added that while mornings and evenings have been cooler, daytime conditions remain relatively comfortable, allowing residents to manage with sweaters rather than requiring heavier winter jackets thus far.
The meteorological developments suggest that this situation will change shortly, with proper winter conditions establishing themselves in the coming days, bringing the cold weather that Ludhiana residents associate with this season.
