Nagpur Hosts National Environment Youth Parliament with 200 Young Delegates

Nagpur witnessed a significant environmental initiative as nearly 200 young delegates from across India transformed Vidhan Bhavan into a dynamic forum for climate debate and policy dialogue on Saturday. The National Environment Youth Parliament was inaugurated with a strong emphasis on converting awareness into tangible action, marking a pivotal moment for youth-led environmental advocacy.

Inaugural Session Highlights Youth Leadership and Environmental Awareness

The inaugural session featured addresses from key dignitaries, including RTMNU Vice-Chancellor Manali Kshirsagar, who underscored the critical need to foster environmental awareness and leadership among the youth. "The National Environment Youth Parliament will create environmental awareness among youth. This platform will unite them in dialogue, action, and initiatives to address serious environmental challenges," she stated, highlighting the event's role in empowering the next generation.

Additionally, Devdutt Joshi, a senior functionary of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), present at the ceremony, stressed that environmental conservation efforts must be deeply rooted in societal participation and youth engagement. Referring to ABVP's focus on the "five elements" — water, people, forests, land, and animals — he emphasized that sustained awareness among young citizens is essential for achieving long-term sustainable development goals.

Two major thematic sessions are scheduled for Sunday, designed to delve deeper into climate governance and global leadership.

  • The first session will focus on "India's five-dimensional change and the use of ecological intelligence in climate governance," exploring innovative approaches to environmental management.
  • The second session will deliberate on "India and the world's role at COP30 — global climate leadership based on Indian civilizational sustainability values," examining India's potential influence on international climate policies.
