Pune Sees Brief Temperature Dip as IMD Predicts Return to Warmer Nights

Residents across several regions of Maharashtra, including Pune, woke up to a marginally cooler Monday morning, offering temporary respite from the recent warmer nights. However, officials from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) have cautioned that this brief relief is unlikely to persist, with minimum temperatures expected to stay elevated above normal levels in the coming days.

Temperature Variations Across Pune and Maharashtra

In Pune, specific areas recorded varying minimum temperatures on Monday. Shivajinagar observed a minimum of 14.1°C, which is 2.1 degrees above the normal range for this time of year. Meanwhile, NDA was relatively cooler at 12.5°C, though this still represented a significant 6.4°C increase above normal. Other localities within the city reported noticeably higher readings, with Lohegaon at 18.4°C and Chinchwad at 18.8°C. The maximum temperature in Pune hovered around 30.1°C, indicating a stable daytime climate.

Across Maharashtra, Yavatmal in the Vidarbha region registered the lowest minimum temperature at 11.2°C on Monday. Conversely, several areas continued to experience high daytime temperatures, particularly along the Konkan coast. Ratnagiri reported the state's highest maximum temperature at 34.5°C, while Mumbai recorded maximums ranging between 32.6°C and 33°C.

IMD Forecast and Weather Patterns

An IMD official stated that minimum temperatures are likely to rise by 2 to 3 degrees over Konkan, Madhya Maharashtra, and Marathwada over the next three days. After this period, no major changes are anticipated. The official emphasized, "Minimum temperatures are likely to remain on the higher side over the next seven days. At present, there is no sign of a significant drop."

This warming trend is attributed to easterly winds, which are moist and warm air masses originating from the Bay of Bengal. Maximum temperatures are also expected to gradually increase over Konkan, Madhya Maharashtra, and Marathwada over the next four to five days, signaling a shift back to seasonally warmer conditions.

Statewide Temperature Anomalies

Despite the recent slight dip in nighttime temperatures, minimum readings across Maharashtra remain several degrees above normal. For instance, Nashik recorded a minimum of 13.8°C, which is 3.2 degrees above normal, and Malegaon reported a 3.8-degree rise over the usual levels. Along the Konkan coast, Colaba logged a minimum of 22°C, marking a 2.1-degree departure from normal, while Santacruz recorded a deviation of 2.9 degrees.

The IMD's projections suggest that residents should prepare for continued warmer nights, with the brief cool spell being a temporary interruption in the overall trend of elevated temperatures.
