Pune witnessed a clear spike in nighttime temperatures on Tuesday. The mercury climbed noticeably higher compared to Monday across various parts of the city. Weather specialists point to increased moisture and cloud cover as the primary reasons for this change. Some localities even saw light rainfall during the evening hours.
Temperature Data Shows Significant Jumps
Official data from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) recorded on Tuesday reveals the extent of the warming. In Shivajinagar, the minimum temperature rose to 14.8°C from 10.9°C just a day earlier. Pashan recorded a rise to 14.3°C from 10.4°C. The NDA area saw one of the most substantial increases, with the temperature surging to 13.8°C from 9.5°C.
Other areas followed a similar pattern. Lohegaon's minimum temperature reached 19.4°C, up from 16.2°C on Monday. Chinchwad also warmed up, climbing to 19.1°C from 15.7°C. Observers noted comparable upward trends in places like Lavale and Magarpatta, where nighttime temperatures increased by several degrees.
Expert Analysis on the Weather Shift
Independent weather forecaster Abhijit Modak explained the reasons behind this temperature rise. He linked it directly to changing synoptic conditions over the region. "The post-northeast monsoon easterly wave has now weakened into a trough," Modak stated. "Its remnants are currently driving moisture into Maharashtra from Tuesday through Wednesday morning."
Forecast for the Coming Days
Modak provided further details on what residents can expect. "Increased cloud cover will likely prevent sharp nighttime cooling, leading to these higher minimum temperatures," he said. He also mentioned that wind convergence might trigger scattered showers or thunderstorms. These could affect ghat sections and parts of southwest Maharashtra, including the Pune-Solapur-Kolhapur belt, south Konkan, and possibly Marathwada.
The forecaster added that winter conditions are expected to remain mild until Makar Sankranti. Meanwhile, the IMD has not issued any rainfall forecasts for Maharashtra in the immediate future. Despite this, nighttime conditions are turning milder across the state.
Local Rainfall Reports
Parts of Pune did experience very light rain on Tuesday evening. An expert from the Vagaries of Weather blog reported drizzle in several areas, including Bibvewadi, Nanded City, Kondhwa, Market Yard, and Hadapsar. Other localities such as Lohegaon, Katraj, and Dhayari also recorded light showers during the evening.
