Pune's Morning Temperatures Stabilize at 14°C, Clear Skies Predicted

Residents of Pune are experiencing relatively cooler mornings as the minimum temperature has steadied around 14 degrees Celsius, a notable drop from the 18.2°C recorded at the end of January. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), this trend is set to continue with clear skies dominating the forecast for the next few days.

Regional Temperature Variations Across Pune

On February 4, temperature readings from various stations highlighted significant differences across the city. The Shivajinagar station reported a minimum temperature of 14.9°C, which was 2.9°C above the normal range. Similarly, the Pashan station recorded nearly identical morning temperatures. In contrast, NDA experienced the coolest morning at 13.1°C, while areas like Magarpatta and Chinchwad saw higher minimum temperatures, hovering around 20°C. Lavale registered 16.2°C, illustrating the diverse microclimates within Pune.

IMD Forecast and Weather Patterns

SD Sanap, a Scientist at the IMD, indicated that there might be a normal increase of 2-3°C in morning temperatures over the coming days. Specifically, Shivajinagar is expected to record 15°C on February 5, dip to 14°C from February 6 to 8, and then rise back to 15°C on February 9 and 10. Meanwhile, warmer areas such as Chinchwad, Magarpatta, and Koregaon Park will maintain morning temperatures around 18-19°C.

Sanap explained the meteorological factors behind these conditions: "The South-Easterly winds are bringing moisture from the Bay of Bengal into the region, while the Northerly cold and dry winds have weakened. These conditions are responsible for the morning temperatures being on the higher side."

Broader Weather Trends in Maharashtra

The minimum temperature was above normal across Maharashtra, with Central Maharashtra experiencing the highest departure from average. For instance, Nashik recorded 14.8°C on February 4, which was 4.8°C above normal, while Ahilyanagar had the lowest minimum temperature of 14.3°C, still 2.2°C above normal. The daytime temperature in Pune has remained steady at 30°C for several days, with February 4's maximum temperature at 30.5°C, only 0.5 degrees below normal.

Sky Conditions and Upcoming Changes

The weather office has forecast clear skies for the next couple of days. However, from February 8 onwards, clouds are expected to appear towards the afternoon and evening, potentially altering the current weather pattern. This shift may bring slight variations in temperature and humidity levels as the week progresses.

Overall, Pune's weather remains mild with stable temperatures, but residents should stay informed about the gradual changes anticipated in the coming days, especially with the onset of cloudier conditions later in the week.
