Rajasthan's Seasonal Transition Brings Sharp Temperature Contrast
A significant seasonal shift is currently unfolding across Rajasthan, marked by a noticeable rise in daytime temperatures that is bringing warm and comfortable afternoons to the state. This warming trend has prompted residents to begin storing away their winter clothing during the day, signaling the gradual retreat of the cold season.
Daytime Warmth Versus Persistent Cold Mornings
However, winter has not fully released its hold on the region. Mornings and nights continue to be cold in several parts of Rajasthan, particularly in the Shekhawati region, where cold-wave conditions stubbornly persist. On Sunday, most locations across the state recorded an increase in maximum temperatures, highlighting this dual weather pattern.
In Jaipur, the capital city, the mercury climbed to 27.8°C during the day, yet the minimum temperature remained low at 11.7°C. This sharp contrast between day and night temperatures has resulted in a unique scenario where people are stepping out without woollens in the afternoon but still require warm clothing during the early morning hours.
Regional Variations in Temperature Extremes
Barmer emerged as the hottest spot in Rajasthan, with a maximum temperature reaching 31°C, reflecting the intensifying heat over western parts of the state. Several districts reported maximum temperatures that were 3 to 4 degrees above normal, reinforcing the overall warming trend that is taking hold.
In stark contrast, the Shekhawati region continues to experience biting cold conditions. Fatehpur recorded the lowest minimum temperature in the state at 4.9°C. Areas including Sikar, Churu, and adjoining locations also faced severe cold during morning hours, with temperatures remaining significantly below normal levels.
Meteorological Explanation and Forecast
According to meteorological officials, clear skies and cold northerly winds are responsible for the chilly mornings and nights, while strong sunlight during the day is pushing temperatures higher. No rainfall was recorded anywhere in Rajasthan during the past 24 hours, and dry weather conditions are expected to continue across the state.
The meteorological department has indicated that while daytime temperatures are likely to rise further in the coming days, cold conditions may persist during mornings in northern districts. In its forecast, the Met office stated that the mercury is likely to take an upward swing except in some parts of the Shekhawati region, where the cold wave may continue to linger.
