Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu took decisive action on Monday. He directed state officials to conduct detailed scientific studies on critical environmental issues. The meeting, held in Shimla, focused on pressing concerns affecting the state's natural balance.
Focus on Water Evaporation and Cloudbursts
Sukhu expressed serious concern about water evaporation from dams and reservoirs during summer months. He instructed officials to carry out thorough research on this phenomenon. The Chief Minister also stressed the need to explore any potential link between reservoir water evaporation and the increasing frequency of cloudbursts in the region.
Addressing Haze and Glacier Melting
During the meeting, Sukhu highlighted the problem of rising haze levels in various cities across Himachal Pradesh. He called for a scientific assessment to understand the causes and impacts of this haze. Furthermore, the Chief Minister emphasised the importance of analysing glacier melting in the state.
He noted that accelerated glacier melting disrupts the ecological system. This disruption poses significant challenges to flood management and maintaining the natural environmental balance. Sukhu directed officials to study these impacts comprehensively.
Review of Energy Sector Projects
The Chief Minister also reviewed ongoing construction projects in the energy sector. He provided specific directions to officials to ensure timely execution of these projects. Discussions covered the implementation of smart electricity meters across the state.
Sukhu instructed officials to carry out feeder billing mapping for better monitoring and efficiency. This move aims to improve electricity distribution and management systems throughout Himachal Pradesh.
Celebrating Hydroelectric Achievements
Highlighting the state's accomplishments, Sukhu informed attendees about completed hydroelectric projects. The successful completion of 13 hydroelectric projects has increased Himachal's power generation capacity by 1,229 megawatts. This significant boost contributes substantially to the state's energy security and sustainability goals.
The Chief Minister's directives reflect a comprehensive approach to environmental management and energy development. These studies and initiatives aim to address both immediate concerns and long-term sustainability for Himachal Pradesh.
