Uttarkashi Witnesses Dramatic Weather Shift with Snowfall and Rainfall
In a sudden change of weather patterns, Uttarkashi district in Uttarakhand experienced significant snowfall in high-altitude areas and light rainfall in low-lying regions from Sunday evening through Monday. This unexpected meteorological event has led to a notable drop in both maximum and minimum temperatures across the district.
Snowfall Brings Cheer to Farmers and Apple Growers
The snowfall has been met with enthusiasm by local apple growers and cultivators of various crops. Rainfall and snowfall during the month of March are particularly beneficial for crop yields, providing much-needed moisture and improving agricultural prospects.
Detailed Snowfall and Rainfall Measurements
According to reports, approximately seven to eight inches of snow accumulated at the sacred sites of Gangotri and Yamunotri dhams. Additionally, high-altitude villages such as Harsil, Geeth, and Mori recorded about three to four inches of snow.
In lower areas of the district, the sky remained overcast throughout Monday following rainfall on Sunday night. The district headquarters recorded 18 mm of rainfall, while the Gangotri range saw 20 mm of precipitation, as stated by district disaster management officer Shardul Gushai.
Relief from Prolonged Dry Spell
Local residents had been anxiously awaiting precipitation, as the extended period without rain and snow had left crops on the brink of withering away. This recent weather activity has provided crucial relief and revived hopes for a successful harvest season.
The combination of snowfall in elevated regions and rainfall in lower areas has created a positive impact on the agricultural landscape of Uttarkashi, marking a welcome departure from the previous dry conditions.
