Varanasi's Mega Green Drive: 3 Lakh Saplings to be Planted in One Hour
In a bold move to enhance urban greenery and combat environmental challenges, Varanasi is set to launch a mega-campaign on March 1 in Domri, Ramnagar. The initiative aims to plant an impressive three lakh saplings within just one hour, marking a significant step towards creating a more sustainable and healthier city.
Mayor's Call to Action for Councillors and Supporters
Mayor Ashok Kumar Tiwari recently convened a crucial meeting with councillors at the municipal corporation auditorium on Thursday. During the session, he made a passionate appeal, urging all councillors to actively participate in the campaign by arriving at Domri with at least 50 supporters each. This collective effort is designed to ensure the success of the large-scale plantation drive, fostering community involvement in environmental conservation.
Developing Domri into a Vast Forest Area
Municipal commissioner Himanshu Nagpal provided insights into the ambitious project, revealing that a 350 bigha area in Domri is being meticulously developed into a vast 'forest area'. He emphasized the dual benefits of this dense plantation, stating, "This initiative will significantly bring down Varanasi's temperature and provide much-needed relief from dust pollution." The transformation of this land into a green zone is expected to improve air quality and mitigate the urban heat island effect, contributing to a cooler and cleaner environment for residents.
Strategic Planning and Environmental Impact
The campaign is strategically planned to maximize efficiency and impact within the short timeframe. Key aspects include:
- Rapid Execution: Planting three lakh saplings in one hour requires meticulous coordination and volunteer mobilization.
- Community Engagement: Involving councillors and their supporters promotes grassroots participation in green initiatives.
- Long-term Benefits: The new forest area is projected to enhance biodiversity, reduce carbon footprint, and offer recreational spaces for the public.
This initiative aligns with broader efforts to address climate change and urban pollution, setting a precedent for other cities to follow in adopting aggressive greening strategies. As Varanasi prepares for this landmark event, the focus remains on creating a lasting legacy of environmental stewardship and improved quality of life for its citizens.
