Pratapgarh Environmental Group Earns Prestigious Republic Day 2026 Invitation for Ganga Conservation Work
In a significant recognition of environmental stewardship, the Pratapgarh-based Vasundhara Sanstha has received a special invitation to attend the Republic Day 2026 celebrations in New Delhi. This honor comes under the Namami Gange Mission, acknowledging the organization's substantial contributions to Ganga river conservation over more than two decades.
Sustained Environmental Commitment Recognized at National Level
Secretary of the organization and dedicated Ganga Prahari Shikha Singh, who will represent Vasundhara Sanstha at the Republic Day event, detailed their extensive work. "For over 20 years, Vasundhara Sanstha has been actively engaged in environmental protection initiatives, with particular focus on ensuring the cleanliness and uninterrupted flow of the sacred Ganga river," Singh explained.
The organization's comprehensive approach to river conservation includes:
- Active participation in Ganga cleanliness drives and riverbank restoration projects
- Systematic removal of ritual remains and waste materials from riverbanks
- Implementation of water conservation initiatives and rainwater harvesting systems
- Village-level awareness campaigns to educate communities about river protection
- Encouraging women's participation in environmental conservation efforts
Since 2007, these multifaceted efforts have transformed Ganga service into a genuine people's movement, engaging communities across the region.
Previous Honors and State-Level Recognition
Vasundhara Sanstha's sustained environmental work has previously earned several state-level and departmental honors. During the Ganga Samman Samaroh held on December 8, 2023, Shikha Singh received special recognition through a citation and cash award presented by Uttar Pradesh Jal Shakti Minister Swatantra Dev Singh.
This distinction made Vasundhara Sanstha the only organization from Uttar Pradesh to receive such recognition at the event, highlighting their exceptional contribution to river conservation efforts in the state.
Government Acknowledgment and Future Participation
The invitation to attend Republic Day 2026 celebrations came directly through a call from the Government of India, specifically acknowledging Vasundhara Sanstha's exemplary work under the Namami Gange scheme. This national recognition underscores the importance of grassroots environmental organizations in achieving large-scale conservation goals.
Expressing her gratitude for this honor, Shikha Singh emphasized the cultural and spiritual significance of their work. "Maa Ganga is not merely a river but a living culture, and protecting her represents both a moral and social responsibility for every citizen," she stated.
Singh further noted that this recognition belongs not just to the organization but to society at large, including dedicated volunteers and all Ganga devotees who have supported their conservation mission through the years. The Republic Day 2026 invitation serves as validation of their community-driven approach to environmental protection and river conservation.
