Delegation pushes for circuit bench in Shivamogga
Member of Parliament B Y Raghavendra led a delegation on 24 June 2026 to demand the establishment of a Karnataka High Court circuit bench in Shivamogga district. The delegation urged the state government to ensure that Shivamogga remains under the jurisdiction of the Principal Bench in Bengaluru until a circuit bench is set up locally. The move aims to improve access to justice for residents of the Malnad region.
Details of the demand
The delegation highlighted the geographical challenges faced by litigants from Shivamogga and surrounding districts who must travel long distances to Bengaluru for court proceedings. They argued that a circuit bench would reduce travel costs and time, making the judiciary more accessible. According to Raghavendra, the demand has been pending for years and requires immediate attention from the state government.
Impact on local judiciary
If established, the circuit bench would handle cases currently heard only in Bengaluru, easing the burden on the Principal Bench. The delegation also sought interim measures to ensure uninterrupted legal services. The demand aligns with broader efforts to decentralize the state's judiciary and improve efficiency.
