CM Yogi Adityanath Sounds Alarm on Delhi's 'Gas Chamber' Pollution, Contrasts with Gorakhpur's Purity
GORAKHPUR: In a stark warning about one of the world's most pressing issues, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday voiced deep concern over the dangerously poor Air Quality Index (AQI) in Delhi. He attributed such hazardous conditions directly to human interference with nature and a widespread neglect of environmental duties.
Delhi's Suffocating Reality: A Dire Health Emergency
Speaking at the inauguration ceremonies for the renovated Block Development Officer's office and the city's fifth Kalyan Mandapam in Gorakhpur, CM Adityanath painted a grim picture of life in the national capital. "Only if you protect the environment will the environment protect you. Look at Delhi's condition, life there has become suffocating. It feels like being in a gas chamber," he stated emphatically.
The AQI is in a very poor and hazardous state, he reported, detailing severe physical symptoms experienced by residents. "There is burning in the eyes and significant difficulty in breathing. Medical professionals are advising the elderly, individuals with pre-existing health conditions, and young children to remain indoors and avoid venturing outside their homes," the Chief Minister added, underscoring the immediate public health crisis.
Gorakhpur's Environmental Model: A Breath of Fresh Air
In sharp contrast to the capital's plight, CM Adityanath highlighted Gorakhpur's superior atmospheric conditions. He proudly noted that the city enjoys a clean and healthy environment entirely free from such suffocating pollution. "The environment here is absolutely pure," he affirmed, presenting Gorakhpur as a positive example of sustainable living.
Long-Term Solutions: Forestry University and Sustainable Initiatives
Looking beyond immediate concerns, the Chief Minister outlined proactive, long-term measures to combat environmental degradation. He specifically referred to the proposed forestry university in Campierganj, which he stated would play a pivotal and transformative role in addressing these global challenges.
This institution is expected to significantly contribute to increasing forest cover across the region, while simultaneously boosting farmers' incomes through innovative, forestry-based agricultural initiatives and sustainable livelihood programs.
The Inextricable Link Between Pollution and Public Health
CM Adityanath further elaborated on the profound health implications of air pollution, warning that it does not merely affect the respiratory system. "Air pollution not only damages the lungs but gradually affects the entire human body," he explained, drawing a direct and undeniable connection between environmental quality and overall well-being.
He concluded with a powerful, preventative message: "If there is no pollution, there will be no disease," stressing that safeguarding the environment is fundamentally synonymous with protecting public health and ensuring a sustainable future for all citizens.
