Thirty-eight Pakistani police and army personnel have been killed in Balochistan over the past four days, Director General of Pakistan's Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, said on Wednesday. The announcement was made during a press conference in Rawalpindi, as reported by Pakistani media outlets.
Details of the Attacks
Lt Gen Chaudhry detailed three separate incidents. The first occurred on the night of July 4-5 in Hanna Urak, where security personnel were targeted. According to PTV, the second attack at the Mangi Dam, specifically the Ziarat-Mangi police check post, resulted in the deaths of nine police personnel on the first day, with an additional 18 killed later, bringing the total to 27 police officers.
The third incident took place on Wednesday in the Dela Bandar area, involving an army convoy. Lt Gen Chaudhry stated, as quoted by PTV: "An engagement took place between the convoy and members of the BLA; the convoy was attacked." He confirmed that 11 army personnel—one Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) and ten soldiers—were killed in that operation.
Claimed Responsibility
Reuters reported on Tuesday, citing deputy police commissioner Abdul Qudoos Achakzai, that the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for the attack in Ziarat district. Meanwhile, the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) issued a statement on Monday claiming that it inflicted severe setbacks on the Pakistani military through a series of intense and coordinated attacks during the first six months of 2026.
The BLA statement said: "During these operations, BLA successfully targeted and razed to the ground fortified garrisons and military camps of the occupying Pakistani forces. Simultaneously, they dealt decisive blows to the networks of the enemy's intelligence agencies directly involved in the Baloch genocide, entering their offices and eliminating their personnel."
Broader Context
The attacks highlight the ongoing security challenges in Balochistan, where multiple insurgent groups operate. The province has seen a surge in violence, with both TTP and BLA frequently targeting security forces and infrastructure. The Pakistani military has intensified operations in response, but the latest casualties underscore the persistent threat.
