Akal Takht Ardas for Sikh Youths at Harike Pattan on July 14

The Akal Takht is set to conduct a special ardas (prayer ceremony) on the banks of the Sutlej River at Harike Pattan on July 14, 2026, for the Sikh youths whose cases were brought to light by human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra. Khalra was kidnapped on September 6, 1995, and his disappearance remains a significant human rights issue.

Akal Takht Jathedar Announces Special Religious Gathering

Akal Takht officiating Jathedar Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj announced that a special religious gathering would be held to offer prayers for the eternal peace of Sikh youths “who were killed by the police.” The event aims to address the unresolved pain of families who lost their loved ones.

Giani Gargaj emphasized that many grieving mothers and sisters still do not know what happened to their sons and brothers. He stated that it is time for the world to learn the truth about what occurred in Punjab and for the victims’ families to receive justice.

Open Invitation to Victim Families and Human Rights Defenders

The Jathedar extended an open invitation to all victim families and those who have worked to defend human rights to participate in the event. The ardas is intended to provide solace and recognition for the suffering endured by these families.

The location, Harike Pattan, holds significance as it is where the Sutlej River flows, and the gathering will seek to honor the memory of the youths whose fates remain unknown.
