Imphal: Security forces have recovered arms, communication equipment, and explosive remnants from the stretch between Border Pillars 72 and 73, about 12 km south of Chonjang Company Operating Base along the India-Myanmar border under Moreh Police Station in Tengnoupal district, police said on Saturday night.
Recovered Items
The recovered items included a country-made lathode gun, a 9 mm pistol with magazine, a .22 pistol made in the USA with magazine, four radio sets, and four remnants of improvised explosive devices (IEDs). The recovery was made during an operation on Friday.
Arrest of PLA Cadres
In a separate development, security forces arrested two active cadres of the banned RPF/PLA outfit from Waithou Sangomsang under Lilong Police Station in Thoubal district on Friday. The arrested individuals have been identified as Sanasam Sanamatum Meitei alias Tompok alias Oneman (32) and Yengkokpam Premchand Singh alias Chingsanglakpa (26). A two-wheeler was seized from their possession.
Combing Operation Along Highways
Meanwhile, in a bid to prevent any spillover of recent violence reported in Kotlen, security forces carried out a surprise joint combing operation on Saturday in areas around Litan, Mahadev, and Sinakeithel along national highways 202 and 102A. Villages inhabited by both communities were jointly patrolled, and several bunkers were traced and dismantled during the operation.
Community Engagement
Security personnel also met village authorities and civil society organisations, seeking their cooperation in maintaining peace and assuring them of continued security presence. Community leaders were urged to counsel local youths against reacting to incidents occurring elsewhere and engaging in violence near their villages.
Officials said such operations would continue to ensure the safety and well-being of the local populace and maintain secure passage along the highways.
