A tragic road accident claimed the lives of a couple and their son in Gorakhpur, with their newly-wed daughter performing the last rites for the family and their pet dog. The incident occurred on Saturday when the family was returning from a wedding function in Ranchi.
Accident Details
Vinay Srivastava (53), a private school teacher and resident of Khorabar, was returning home with his wife Archana (48), son Kritarth (27), and their pet dog after attending his daughter's wedding in Ranchi on April 20. In the early hours of Saturday, near Mau, their car went out of control, crossed the divider, and collided head-on with a speeding trailer. The family died on the spot.
Postmortem and Last Rites
Late Saturday night, the bodies reached home after postmortem. On Sunday, the bodies were taken to Rajghat cremation ground, where the bride's cousin, Anand Srivastava alias Priyanshu, lit the funeral pyres. The newly-wed daughter joined the rituals and also buried the pet dog that was with the family in the car. Anand's wedding, which was scheduled for May 7, has now been postponed.
The tragic incident has left the community in mourning, as the family had just celebrated a joyous occasion before the fatal journey.
