The counter-intelligence (CI) wing of Ferozepur police achieved a major breakthrough by dismantling a cross-border arms racket on Tuesday. A weapon supplier was arrested, and authorities seized five .30-bore Glock pistols along with four live cartridges.
Arrest and Seizure
The accused has been identified as Lakhwinder Singh, a resident of Khehra Ke Uttar village in Ferozepur. Singh has a criminal background and was released from jail only a month ago. Police officials stated that preliminary investigations indicate the weapons were allegedly smuggled into India through cross-border channels and were intended for further distribution via an established network.
Legal Action
A case under Section 25 of the Arms Act has been registered at Kulgarhi police station. The investigation is ongoing to uncover the full extent of the racket.
Police Operation
Ferozepur CI Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Gursewak Singh revealed that the police received specific intelligence about Lakhwinder operating as a weapon supplier in the region. Acting swiftly on the input, a police team from Ferozepur CI conducted an operation in the Kulgarhi area and successfully apprehended the suspect.
The arrest marks a significant step in curbing the illegal flow of arms across the border. Further interrogation of the accused is underway to identify other members of the network and prevent future smuggling activities.
