A sudden fire at a prominent private hospital in Bairagarh, Bhopal, on Thursday afternoon caused panic among patients and attendants. The blaze, which reportedly originated in a ward, was brought under control within approximately 40 minutes by fire brigade teams. Patients were promptly moved to safer areas as a precautionary measure.
Incident Details
According to officials, smoke was first noticed rising from a ward of the hospital near Sehore Naka around 3:30 PM, triggering immediate alarm. Hospital staff quickly alerted the municipal corporation fire brigade, and two fire tenders arrived at the scene to begin firefighting operations. Fire personnel broke glass panels on the second floor to access the affected area and extinguish the flames.
Fire Safety Measures Activated
The hospital’s inbuilt fire safety system activated automatically, and water leakage from sprinklers helped prevent the fire from spreading further. Officials noted that no patients were admitted in the ward where the fire started, but nearby patients were shifted downstairs to safer zones as a precaution.
Cause of the Fire
Hospital management reported that sparks allegedly originated from a bed fitted with a motor in the ward. The sparks ignited a mattress, and the flames spread to an air conditioning unit. Thanks to the timely activation of the sprinkler system and the prompt response of the fire brigade, major damage was averted. No injuries were reported.
The incident highlights the importance of robust fire safety systems in healthcare facilities. Authorities are investigating the exact cause of the fire.
