Florida Man Arrested for 1993 Bronx Double Murder

More than three decades after a husband and wife were fatally shot in their Bronx apartment in the presence of their three-year-old child, US authorities have apprehended a Florida man accused of committing the murders during a planned drug robbery.

Arrest in Tampa

William Antonio Solis, 62, was taken into custody last month in Tampa, Florida, by the New York Police Department. Federal prosecutors allege that Solis participated in the execution-style killings of Luis Guerrero and his wife, Danis Sime, on June 21, 1993.

Details of the Crime

According to authorities, Solis and two alleged accomplices targeted Guerrero, described as a narcotics supplier, during a planned robbery at an apartment in the Bronx. Guerrero was restrained while drugs were stolen from him. His wife was then allegedly lured into the apartment, where she too was bound. Solis then shot both victims in the head while their three-year-old child was present.

NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch stated, "The defendant in this case allegedly executed two New Yorkers in cold blood over 30 years ago, right in front of their three-year-old child."

Hiding in Plain Sight

HSI New York Acting Special Agent in Charge Michael Alfonso remarked that Solis had spent years "hiding in plain sight" far from New York. "As alleged, William Solis spent decades hiding in plain sight more than a thousand miles from where he viciously murdered the Guerreros in front of their young child," Alfonso said.

Charges and Penalties

Solis resides in Tampa and has been charged with intentional killing while engaged in a narcotics conspiracy. If convicted, the charge carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 20 years in prison and a maximum penalty of life imprisonment or death.
