A tragic road accident occurred near Poovanthi in Sivaganga district on Friday, resulting in the death of a 58-year-old man and injuries to six others. The incident took place around 11:30 am on the Madurai–Thondi National Highway when two cars collided head-on.
Details of the Accident
The deceased has been identified as Ravi, a resident of Jeeva Nagar in Manamadurai. He was returning home with his family after attending a housewarming ceremony in Madurai. According to police reports, Ravi was driving his car when another vehicle, driven by Prabakaran and coming from the opposite direction, crashed into his car near Poovanthi. The impact of the collision caused both cars to overturn.
Casualties and Rescue Operations
Ravi died on the spot due to the severity of the crash. Five members of his family, along with Prabakaran's wife, sustained injuries. Police personnel quickly arrived at the scene, rescued the injured, and transported them to the Sivaganga Government Medical College Hospital for medical treatment. The highway witnessed traffic disruption for approximately 30 minutes following the accident as authorities managed the situation.
